The plot may be a little cliché, but the delivery is solid and serves as a nice homage to the old ‘Giallo horrors’ of long ago. The cast, including DiCaprio, sell the melodrama while the sets play up to the gothic mood nicely- all helped along to a genuinely unsettling score. It has been said that the twisting plot is stretched to contrivance, and flawed on reflection, but I’d argue they work within the genre.
