MONSTERS UNIVERSITY; Carlisle's Final Word

Final Word: Only after something as flawless as the first Monster's Inc could a 6/10 be considered a crushing disappointment, but sadly that's the final word. Disappointing, but not awful- and probably better on a second viewing...
Some nice ideas are poorly served by patchy plotting and a yawn-inducing pace. It's a thrill to see Mike and Sully back on the screen and bickering, but it's Helen Mirren's turn as the imposing Dean Hardscuttle is the movie's stand-out performance. Sadly none of the other characters leave a lasting impression. However, younger children will likely find much to enjoy about Monsters University (it's a colourful movie if nothing else) even if they do get bored during the slower moments. On a final note, the scene-setter at the beginning (featuring Mike as an impressionable child) is both heart warming and genuinely comical- sadly setting a height that the majority of the film fails to live up to.
Bland, unadventurous, and, In Hardbottle's own words "mediocre".
